Definition of a lady

Most of my skirts are pencils. It’s a style that looks best on me. However I don’t wear them often since I think of them as formal pieces. This outfit was an experiment designed to see how casual I can make a pencil skirt. A high waisted one paired with a crop top?  Yes, positive result!

The party pants

Here is my current take on party pants and a tee, modified for Arizona’s weather: A pair of loose soft pants in an eye-catching print paired with a drape-y silk tee. The best part? The loose fit of pants and tee allows you to eat as much as you want!

White blouse

A white blouse or shirt is my go to item when I’m in a hurry. It goes with everything, it is pulled together, it is flattering… there is no way I can go wrong with a white top, specially if it is in eyelet. So sweet and feminine!

Stormy day

I was eagerly anticipating this storm and I dressed for it. Adding navy tights and a trench coat to my outfit and ready to face the rain and the wind…the whole enchilada.

In reality however, we didn’t see any rain. A friend told us later in the day that it rained for half an hour some 40 miles up north and that was it! The winds kept blowing the whole day making me wish I hadn’t worn a minidress!

Red alert

We received a weather alert since there is going to be a storm in the next couple of days. I decided to honor it with wearing red!

Soft mauve

Call it mauve, nude or dusty pink, this new to me color has me mesmerized. That’s why I went head to toe monochrome. Also when you don’t know what to wear, a monochrome look is an easy solution!

Lakeside blues

One surprising thing about parks in Phoenix is that most of them have artificial lakes. It makes for wonderful strolls specially around sundown.

Closet obsessions: Shorts

I started including shorts into my wardrobe a couple of years ago but after moving to Arizona last year, they have become an essential part of my daily wardrobe. As soon as thermometer hit the 80⁰, I organized and steamed my collection and started wearing them. Also, it seems I can’t stop buying them and extending my collection. In addition to solids (from navy and black to pink, mint and red), I am liking patterns and not only geometrical ones but also florals as well. This is such a big step for me!

Two for one

How do you accessorize a black and mostly white outfit? With gold of course!

Also why am I wearing all white whenever I go for Mongolian barbeque? Can someone please remind me how hard it is to get the soy sauce stains out of white the next time I’m going?! Thanks!

Tough pink

One of the colors always suggested to combine with pink is gray. Cooler grays with blue tone pinks and warmer ones with blush and other red tone pinks. I went ahead and added chains and snake prints too while I was at it. Too much pink could be too sweet!

Emerald nights

The other wearings of this dress has been with tan and blue accessories. I thought it is time for a monochrome emerald look (or almost monochrome). This dress fits like a glove so when I have it on, I can’t indulge at dinner. Maybe I have to wear it more often, just to keep my figure in check!

Très bleu

When you decide to head out at the hottest time of the day (here it is between 2:00 and 6:00 in the afternoon) you better be prepared for it. This cool cotton dress is one of my lightest dresses. To make it cooler, I added white accessories.

Palate cleanser

At least once a week I need to go for a white and blue combination. For me it is a color combo which feels refreshing, comfortable and chic. I don’t get tired of it!

An ode to shirtdress

I can’t stop singing the praises of a shirtdress’s ingenious style: easy, pulled together, comfy, cool, usually informal but can be dressed up with the right accessories, cool, flattering, did I mention cool? In cotton or linen it is an ideal hot weather outfit. It has become my life’s mission to buy the best I can find.

Spring skater

My relationship with floral prints is sketchy at the best, but today I wanted to remind myself that it’s still spring (despite the heat) and what better way than wearing a little floral skater skirt? These tiny flowers are in shades of blush, pink and purple, all soft and pretty.

Huh! Got you all fooled, didn’t I? That pretty skater skirt is actually a pair of shorts I found back in February when I went to California!

A touch of neon

I used to reserve a zesty high impact color like this neon yellow top for summer but with the high temperature here, my internal calendar is a bit messed up! Anyhoo, spring or summer, a loose silky top and a wonderful pair of white jeans makes my ideal outfit.

Denim overalls

My version of denim overalls is a bit more grown up since it is a dress. But when I layered my blue lace tee under it, it looked exactly like a pair of overalls.I managed not to put a bow in my hair, but only just!
