Lapis and culottes

Another experiment with the beige culottes to see if I can make them edgy and cool.  The temperature was around 110, so I had to wear something breezy. Good thing this silk top from Madewell is boxy and loose. A good match although I looked a little overweight because of the loose silhouette. The blue of the top was the perfect match for the lapis earrings. My favorite color!

Beige and conservative

My sister mentioned that I dress "much simpler" recently. I heard that as "much more conservative" and went looking for the most on trend piece in my wardrobe. It happend to be this pair of beige culottes. After putting the pieces all together however I ended up with yet another conservative outfit. Holly cow! I am becoming more conservative!

White and smokey

I don't know why I wear white every time I have BBQ for dinner. Even on those unplanned spur of the moment times that we end up in our local BBQ joint.  There is some serious cosmic planning involved just to stain my white outfits with BBQ sauce!

Red strawberries

The abstract print of this top contains little splashes of orange/red which I decided to take advantage of by pairing it with red shorts. I mean how many times can I wear it with white? After the third it becomes tiresome!

White dots

Yes, the weekends are very casual in Phoenix. Truth is everyday of the week is very causal in Phoenix. Since I am not a casual dresser I miss my button down shirts. So trying to "casualize" them has become my recent mission. For this polka dot black shirt, it was achieved by rolling up the sleeves and breaking the collar (letting the collar lay flat). Pairing with shorts was the final touch!

Pretty gingham

Effortless, that's how I think of this dress. Yes, effortless and cool as in breezy... The greatest thing for really hot days. A pair of flat sandals and a small bag and you are set to go!

Beige and burgundy

A pretty dress, a melange of lovely colors and a full day to spend on favorite past times: finding a face mask, a lovely candle and a couple of hours in the library. Why can't everyday be like this?

Red tiles

I've developed an obsession with tile prints. Add it to my love for deep reds and this outfit was inevitable. After putting everything on, decided to tone down the reds by accessorizing with beige. Should I say too little, too late?!

Sage and mint

Thank goodness mixing greens is not as tough as mixing blues. Sage and mint both have cold (blue) undertones so they should go together easily. With that argument I convinced myself to pair them and leave the house without a glance at the mirror. Wasn't that bad at the end!

Silky creams

At a dinner celebrating a friend's recent promotion, I was mostly congratulating myself for snatching up this pair of silk cropped pants before they sell out. Paired with a silk vest and flats, it made for a relaxed but entirely cool (with a dash of sexy thrown in) outfit.

Abstract and luxe

The greatest thing about a silk tee is it still has the casual look of a cotton tee and can be paired with shorts or a circle skirt for a stroll around downtown but has the luxurious feel of a more formal top, which makes me happy. A win win! This painterly abstract print tee has little splashes of pink and purple and cream in it although the picture doesn't show them that much.

What I loved this week:

-Denim culottes: despite the fact that AZ is too hot to wear denim right now, I've fallen in love with these not-so-practical pieces. Problem: Can't find any in stores (AZ is not the fashion capital of anywhere!) and every single one of them is sold out online!!!
-Underwire bikini tops: I like them sporty and structured. JCrew has a great selection. Now if only our pool's repairs were finished!
-Dusty pink roses and a glass of chilled rose: nice suiting colors. Happy, perfect and feminine! What's not too love!

Tribal orange

Happy weekend!
I am back and really glad it's weekend! Orange is the perfect weekend color in my opinion. It is a happy energetic color. I bought this tribal skort from Forever 21 a few weeks ago and thought it goes great with orange and enhances the carefree-ness of the weekend. (Truth? I couldn't wait to wear it and came up with the simplest excuse!) This is the perfect high-low mix, silk top and rayon skort and cool enough for 105 degree. Anyhoo, the skort's print has so many colors in it that I am glad I own tops in every color of the rainbow!

Be right back!

Dear readers,
I've been posting nonstop for the last two years and feel the need for a little break. I need inspiration and a new outlook. Excuse my absence for a week or so.
Wish you all a great time. I'll be back soon!

White uniform

I was very happy when I found this white shirtdress with short sleeves. You all know how I adore shirtdresses and what a big soft spot I have for white. So a match made in haven until I tried it on and asked my husband's opinion. He said:"nope, it looks like a nurse's uniform". Me:"A sexy nurse?" Him:"A nurse!".
Nurse uniform or not, the dress came home with me. I mean, seriously... who passes on a white shirtdress?
And we all know husbands can't be trusted on matters of fashion!

Just to be on the safe side, I left one extra button undone!

White out

This week is turning out to be all white outfits. Not a bad thing considering the heat and my bad mood. White always cheers me up. Or maybe it's the bright lipstick?!

Reflecting the skies

White and light blue? Here in Phoenix this combination is as uninspired as our always clear skies with the occasional fluffy white clouds. What can I say. I really need to take a trip!

White impressions

A white outfit on a hot summer day makes you look cool, pulled together, chic and gives the impression that you are having fun and you've got all your life all figured out. Yes, it is a great facade to hide behind when you are a hot mess (both literally and figuratively) and no one would be the wiser. Unless you confess... which BTW, don't! Ever!

Red, white and blue

If you reach into my closet with closed eyes, the chances of picking two items for a red, white and blue outfit is pretty high. I would say above 75%. Sometime it takes only one item, like these pretties:

Yes, these colors are what I love the most. No wonder my closet is full of them. No wonder 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays.

Happy fourth of July!

Indigo and art

After months of blue skies, I was feeling the need for colorful art acutely so spending a few hours touring the art galleries in Oldtown seemed necessary.

I can't believe how on trend this dress from three years ago is: dark chambray, check; rope and tassel details, check; showing lots of shoulders, check!

Nothing but the clothes

Some days things don't go well at all. You can always take a little satisfaction from the day when you feel you were dressed nicely at least!

Culotte and crop

That sums up this outfit. I thought of the cream and turquoise color combination as restful, definitely something for a lazy afternoon of chilling in a coffee shop and catching up with my reading.
