Teaching adventure

This is how I dressed to teach tonight. I thought I looked good and comfortable and had the right mix of formal and casual. Navy for authority, blazer to make it formal, jeans because it was a night class.

Then I was criticized for wearing jeans! How could people who wear ill-fitting polyester suits and ratty slacks, dare to question my sense of style? Apparently jeans are jeans, regardless of their dark wash or fabulous fit or the fact that they cost more than those polyester suits! That was my lesson for tonight! My mentor said “I don’t want you to become a fashion pallet, but you have to dress up”!!! Was I dressed down compare to her embroidered cardigan, faded black pants and floral top? OMG, the gall of that woman! I feel so insulted!
Am I whining? Did I just O.M.G-ed you? Shoot me now!

Halloween costume

I can’t believe it! It’s the first year that I have invitations to three different Halloween parties and I am not able to make even one of them. Darn work! Also the first year that I had my costume picked and ready two months before the Halloween. I know, I’m so lucky (not)!

So here it is. I am giving my idea away for free. Hope you are luckier than me and get to wear your fun costume. I give you: "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter".
All you need is a tuxedo, a top hat and an axe, facial hair is optional!

Dressed for Moving

Moving my office felt like moving my whole life! It took long and was exhausting. I won’t mention the damage to my computer or anything else!

My red dress which was fancied up with black accessories, even a bow tie!

Tee talk

I am not a big fan of T-shirts. It’s mostly the overly casual feel of them and I always associate them with sleepwear! Also am not a fan of messages and writings on clothing or of crazy pictures and patterns. Therefore, whenever I wear a t-shirt it is plain (or striped) and black or navy. White ones usually don’t look crisp and gray ones remind me of gym-wear!

Finding a shapely tee with the right neckline is a whole new dilemma. The fabric should be crisp and not faded, the fit should be just right, the colors should be intense… yeah, so many things to consider! Crew necks don’t look good on me, some V-necks are cut too low. Scoop-necks are not very useful in my wardrobe.  So when I found J.Crew’sPainter boatneck tees, I was in heaven. The cut is wonderful, the quality is fabulous and the neckline is Juuust Right! If you want to go for a more economic option, consider Artist boatneck tees from J. Crew Factory.

Meeting!

or What to wear when meeting your extremely detail oriented mentor for the first time?

… on a Sunday afternoon! in 88 degree heat!
I was so nervous and stressed (and also annoyed) that didn’t have the creative energy to waste on an outfit. I went with a tried and true outfit I had worn 2-3 times already.
My relatively new denim shirtdress, navy flat shoes, gray terry blazer and accents of gray snakeskin.
Yeah, the outfit worked fine, just the right note of formal with casual, in a meeting in a cafe sort of thing. Me on the other hand? Had to keep a polite smile on my face for two hours straight!

Miscalculations

Have you ever been so happy at finding a bargain that you didn’t even tried the garment in store? Just happened to me! I picked a couple of cute tops for $20 a pop and congratulate myself on my good fortune in finding the last ones in my size, but didn’t try them on. I got home, put them on and found out their necklines are plunging down to…ahem… well, very down!
What am I supposed to do with these: return them or buy a couple of coordinating tank tops to wear under them?

The first top is in a rich wine color, not pink and not blue. But I couldn’t find the right picture online!

Belated Birthday Shopping

I used my birthday discount to nab this pretty (Herlev) sweatercoat from Anthropologie today. The color is a dark orange in real life. This is my very first orange garment, yoohoo! Now what am I supposed to wear with this?!

On the website this coat is available in a dark mustard or gold color also. I so wanted to buy the coat in gold but it is web-exclusive and not available in stores. When I was describing my purchase to my sister, she asked if it is the gold one because she too has liked the gold better! Sometimes it shows that we are related!
