Miscalculations

Have you ever been so happy at finding a bargain that you didn’t even tried the garment in store? Just happened to me! I picked a couple of cute tops for $20 a pop and congratulate myself on my good fortune in finding the last ones in my size, but didn’t try them on. I got home, put them on and found out their necklines are plunging down to…ahem… well, very down!
What am I supposed to do with these: return them or buy a couple of coordinating tank tops to wear under them?

The first top is in a rich wine color, not pink and not blue. But I couldn’t find the right picture online!

Belated Birthday Shopping

I used my birthday discount to nab this pretty (Herlev) sweatercoat from Anthropologie today. The color is a dark orange in real life. This is my very first orange garment, yoohoo! Now what am I supposed to wear with this?!

On the website this coat is available in a dark mustard or gold color also. I so wanted to buy the coat in gold but it is web-exclusive and not available in stores. When I was describing my purchase to my sister, she asked if it is the gold one because she too has liked the gold better! Sometimes it shows that we are related!

Double the pattern

A very busy outfit for a very busy day*. I am not comfortable with patterns but I fell in love with this top back in June. I waited for it to go on sale and I snatched it up (finally, finally mine!) in September. I have paired it with solids from faded jeans to olive cargo skirts. However I wanted to wear my last year skirt, so I matched it with the top. It looked too busy to me the whole day but after 3-4 people complimented the outfit (assuming it is a dress and not two separate pieces), I decided to stop worrying and just go with it!

* Running errand, submitting documents, finishing presentations, going to three different offices across the campus, visiting with friends and taking the time to have a relaxing cup of tea, preparing to move my office (lots of junk to pack!), then going on a quick shopping trip, another meeting and finally dinner. Wow!

Casual burgundy

When I am busy, I go for neutrals. My burgundy jeans now have the honor of being considered neutral. Matching them with a black tee and cream cardigan coat for total comfort!

Bordeaux and fluorescent pink

Trying to tame the glow-in-the-dark color of this top with burgundy. The military jacket was a futile attempt at tying the shoes to the rest the outfit.

This burgundy pair of jeans has proven very versatile. I bought it for $26 at H&M in September and have been wearing it at least 5 times a week for the last two months. It can be used easy as a neutral, to tone down the other colors and also as strong piece and the focal point of the outfit. Sometimes cheap thrills are the best!

Black and Gold

My clothing today is a true reflection of my mood: utterly black! It had rained last night and I didn’t sleep. So getting dressed this morning was a monumental act!
Black boat-neck tee, black skinny jeans, riding boots and my satchel. The only ornamentation comes from flashes of gold on my bag and watch, and my gold necklace. Added the trench to ward of the chill.
This is the most somber outfit I’ve worn in the last three years or so. Does it mean I’ve never been this down in ages?!

50 shades of chocolate:

Sometimes you want to leave your real life behind and escape… to somewhere calm, somewhere quite, somewhere without anxiety or the hustle and bustle of everyday life… somewhere where you can forget your responsibilities.
These days I can’t escape. I have to stay here in present and face a lot of unpleasant things. That’s why I am over-indulging on chocolate. Chocolate truffle cake for breakfast, dark chocolate for dessert and chocolate colored clothing. From a chocolate colored pair of jeans to a caramel colored polka dotted sweater topped with a cardigan in white chocolate.

Bag of the month:

Well, yes, dreams do come true. As I told you before I was on quest to find the perfect black satchel. I did found it (at an amazingly low price) a couple of months ago. I have been happily carrying it around every day for the last two months. It was my birthday present to myself and I was fortunate to find it!

World, I like you to meet my Eli Tahari Convertible Satchel. This beauty is made of black pebble textured leather and measures: W 12.5”, H 9”, D 6”. It has short handles with 5” drop and a long cross-body detachable strap.

The bag has little flap covering an outside pocket. On the inside there is a zippered pocket and two cellphone holder additional pockets. It is well constructed and has the delicate feminine details of all Tahari designs, the reason I like this brand. I own a couple of pairs of shoes and a few article of clothing from Tahari and I’ve been very happy with my purchases. I am glad this bag didn’t disappoint either.
It is absolutely perfect for me as I use it for any outing whenever I don’t have to bring my laptop. It fits all my essentials plus a sweater or two (well, even my leather jacket!). I am so in love with it, I haven’t look at any other bag. Those who know me, know it is a big commitment on my part. Like I’ve married this bag!

Long time, no post!

Sorry everyone for the long absent! I had to do a lot of writing, take an exam and prepare to teach a class which left me almost no time and energy to post here. I try to do better from now on! Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
