Blue Monday:

I was so in rush that I just threw this outfit together and head out. My darling denim dress is getting a work out recently due to the hot weather! Turquoise accessories go well with the light blue of the dress although the whole thing looks a bit uninspired.

Saturday, to watch “Ice Age 4”. The theater was unnaturally cold!

Sunday, an awfully hot day and my trusty white shirtdress. This time I tried to add accents of hot pink. Just wish I still had my hot pink handbag. 

I donated that bag last winter, just 5 months ago. The lesson here is either “check new season’s trends before donating your stuff” or “do not donate before buying a replacement”! Either way that bag would have been perfect!

Holy Grail of Style: Military Jacket

Military or Utility jacket has become a wardrobe staple. Once worn only by “Cool and Edgy” and “rebels”, now it has become something of a classic piece. It is in style year after year, season after season… and… I want one. It could be worn in multiple ways: over dresses or shorts or skirted outfits when it’s warm, over skinny jeans when it’s chilly, under coats as a layering piece,... as demonstrated here. 

I’ve bought a military inspired topper a couple of year ago. It is a cross between a trench coat (longish with swallow tail hem) and an anorak (big draw string collar). It doesn’t however fulfill all my expectations. I’ve kept looking for something hip length or longer in traditional overcoat military style (or should I say utility?). Considering the return of everything military for This Fall, I have to find one as soon as possible. Here are my recent two options: blowing an insane amount on Anthropologie version or lowering my expectations and going with the Gap version. Which one do you prefer?

Bag of the month:

This rather unique tote bag is from “Mashad Leather”, an Iranian brand and producer of leather goods. This tote is two years old and a gift from my mom on my last trip to Iran. The bag measures W 15”, H 13”, D 5”, with a shoulder drop of 8.5”. It’s rather huge, has two inside compartments and a zipped pocket divider in the middle, a cellphone holder, and two other pockets on the inside.

This pretty is my summer bag because… well, just look at that turquoise color… doesn’t it scream summer? I also love the woven texture. This tote has proven itself as a travel tote, as a weekender, as a work bag (so much space for laptop and cardigan and snacks). All I can say: Thank you mom, this was the best gift ever!  

Green Tuesday:

I figured I wear a lot of blues and reds, so maybe some different colors are in order. How about a shot of olive green? And of course I couldn’t live without my beloved red, so it came up in accessories!

Since I’m working in the lab today which means no sandals and skirts, here is a quick switch! Yeah, I’m stashing cloths in my office to change to a more lab and safety appropriated outfit. OK, go ahead and laugh!

Blue Monday:

I have an aversion to Mondays. I always feel rushed and anxious and stressed on Mondays. It gets worse in summer since I keep asking myself why I should go to work/school in summer at all! Let’s start a series of outfits for Mondays, just to make it exciting (and to show my mood)!

So here is the first “Blue Monday” outfit. I love this silk blue shirt. I’ve been wearing it so much and it matches well with almost everything: shorts, jeans, skirts. Touches of cream played up the deep blue. 

Weekend round up:

My obsession with neon continues… my neon yellow top which I couldn’t find a photo of is from Loft. I matched it with neon belt and ring and white shorts… and neutral sandals to ground all that drama! This was such a happy outfit, I am tempted to wear it over and over again.

Then a hot pink outfit for Saturday’s dinner. Hot pink and gray go well together and I had the jean jacket to ward of the chill. 

 

Good thing I remembered owning a denim maxi skirt. By Sunday afternoon I was tried and looking for a slouchy and comfortable outfit. This one fitted the bill:

What I loved this week:

-Neon, in all its eye-catching  glow-in-the-dark glory! I ordered a shirt from J.Crew last week. In the picture it was a respectable Neon rose colored. In reality, it is a glow in the dark fluorescent pink! Yeah, it started an obsession!

-Essie’s nail polishes, specifically my three new colors: “Bold and Beautiful”, “Too Too Hot” and “Raise Awareness”.

-Floral Jeans. I’m neither a big fan of patterns nor florals. For this recent obsession I blame the “street Style” photos and weblogs. I doubt I buy a floral jean ever (ever!). However, there is no harm in looking, is there?!

Surprised!

It was supposed to be hot, but then; it got cloudy, the temperature dropped 10 degrees and it started to rain… yeah, honest to god rain (which continued over night). So, there I was totally surprised in a thin lacy blazer, shorts and sandals!
